Paul Vermeulen is a Metallurgical Engineer (B.Eng Met, MAusIMM, MAIST) with significant experience in iron ore as well as iron and steel making. He is currently a director of Vulcan Technologies Pty Ltd, a consulting firm in the above field. Paul has spent eleven years in various operational and management positions at the then Iscor South Africa (Arcelor-Mittal South Africa), and has gained an intimate knowledge of coke making, sintering, iron making and steel making.

 

Before establishing Vulcan Technologies Pty Ltd in 2007, Paul spent five years within the Rio Tinto Iron Ore group, where he helped to establish higher pricing benchmarks for certain iron ore products, developed models for Rio Tinto Coal, Rio Tinto Iron Ore and assisted steel making customers in their operations.

 

Past and present customers consist of iron ore majors, iron ore juniors, engineering firms and steel makers in the field of VIU, metallurgical test work, processing and steel plant design, resource definition, integration of innovative technologies, project management and decarburisation of steel making operations. Paul is also well-respected in the institutional investment community.

Recent projects include production of direct reduction-grade pellets from high grade magnetite, direct reduced iron and hot briquetted iron.

Paul holds a Bachelor Degree in Metallurgical Engineering with post-graduate Refractory Materials specialisation.
